Kyla McDonald is another local Beaches mom to two young boys. She loves athletics, movies, poetry, and spending time with her family. Her approach to assessment and therapy is strengths based, integrative, and family centered.
Kyla received her B.Sc. degree with Honours in Psychology from Trent University (2011) and completed an M.A. (2013) and Ph.D. in Psychological Science (life span development stream) at Ryerson University (2017), where she studied the development of trust in preschoolers. Kyla is currently pursuing additional training in York University’s Clinical Developmental doctoral psychology program in the Teen Relationships Lab.
. Kyla has completed placements at various interprofessional settings across the GTA including Lakeridge Health (Eating Disorders Program), the CAMH, Holland Bloorview, and York University Psychology Clinic (YUPC). She has conducted neuropsychological, psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessments with individuals who have learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and various neurological conditions. Kyla completed her doctoral-level comprehensive research at the Hospital for Sick Children examining stress and coping in parents of children with neonatal brain injury.
This Fall (2021), Kyla will complete her pre-doctoral residency at the CAMH in the Youth Justice Assessment Clinic and Mood and Anxiety Service for Children and Youth. Her academic research interests focus on protective factors for at-risk youth and prevention/intervention for youth involved in sex trafficking.
Kyla continues her exploration and wonder of lifespan development every day through watching her children grow, change, and learn about the world around them.
At Flourish On Queen, Kyla will be conducting assessments under the supervision of Dr. Ed Roldan.
