Marie Hooper

Marie is a local Beaches mom to Sloane (8) and Ashton (6) and PhD Candidate in Clinical Developmental Psychology at York University. Her approach is strengths based, evidence based, relational, and integrative.

Marie works for the York Region District School Board (YRDSB). Her primary role is to consult, assess, and recommend treatment modalities for children and youth experiencing learning difficulties, developmental delays, attention problems, behaviour concerns, limited motivation, challenges relating to study skills, problems at home or with peers, understand anxiety and depression and other mental health issues.

In addition, she is currently finishing her pre-doctoral residency at the YRDSB and Etobicoke Psychological Services. She also holds positions at Launch Behavioural Health, the Hospital for Sick Children, and Holland Bloorview Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital. Marie has held past positions at the Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board. In addition, Marie sits on the Family Network Steering Committee for Children's Healthcare Canada. While Marie is completing her final doctoral degree requirements, Marie works under the supervision of various clinical psychologists in the GTA and York Region.

In addition to providing comprehensive assessments for children and youth, Marie has extensive individual therapy experience. Marie has experience working with children and youth with anxiety, depression, difficulty with emotion regulation, disordered eating, addiction, and trauma. She also has extensive experience delivering therapy in a group format. Marie has training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Play Therapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).

Flourish on Queen has been a long-time dream for Marie. She has wanted a paediatric hub for struggling children and youth for as long as she can remember – and now as a parent, she fully understands the need for this even more. Not only does Marie work with children and youth with disabilities – Marie is parent to one with a particularly complex medical and cognitive profile. Her doctoral research focuses on the impact of stress in families (particularly siblings) with children with complex needs. Through this work, Marie serves to provide a sense of support and calm to her clients and their families.

At Flourish on Queen, Marie conducts psychological and developmental assessments under the supervision of Dr. Kerry Wells. Marie is also supervised by Dr. Stephanie Lavoie, Dr. Eduardo Roldan, and Dr. Michelle Fardella.
